It’s a night of jazz trumpet! Join Chicago-based Chad McCullough for a clinic at 5 p.m. in Room 47. McCullough has performed all over the world as a leader, headlining at festivals like the 2013 Festival of New Trumpet Music and the Earshot Jazz Festival. He is an Origin Records artist.
Sandoval, our graduate TA, is putting a special group together for you in Room 47 at 5 p.m. Following will be the George Colligan Organ Trio featuring wunderkind Jordan Goldblatt on drums and Grant Sayler on guitar. Check it out!
Join singer-songwriter/producer/guitarist Adam Brock from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in Lincoln Hall, Room 47. An alumnus of PSU”s jazz department, Adam Brock has transformed himself into one of Portland’s most engaging pop musicians. Already a darling of the local media, he is poised for national success. We’ve missed you. But we hope not to miss you next week, when one of the finest pianist-arrangers on the West Coast holds a master class at PSU. Yamaha artist Goldblatt has had a lengthy career doing arranging and musical direction for major artists in LA; he is also a monster on piano. Come check him out!
Learn about the history of jazz with two-time Grammy winning trumpeter Scotty Barnhart. Barnhart’s playing has been praised by everyone from Stanley Crouch to Bill Cosby. The artist is sure to provide an interesting perspective on the music scene; he is in his 19th year as a soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra. Barnhart’s clinic will take place on June 2 at 5 p.m. in Lincoln Hall, Room 47.

Tuesday, May 20, is packed with jazz for you. First, we have California flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny in town for a master class from 2:00–4:00 p.m. in Room 47, then an afternoon of great student recitals (also in Room 47) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Lindsay Quint, Nate Lown, and Austin Christ will perform. Then, at 8:00 p.m in Room 175, the PSU Large Ensemble Concert will be featured. Come and join in the fun!
